Botox is a common treatment used to alleviate the severity of frown lines between eyebrows, forehead wrinkles and the wrinkles around your eyes (commonly called crow’s feet). The medication is applied into your wrinkles through the use of a tiny needle.

How Does Botox Work?
While Botox is not permanent, it is a safe, FDA-approved procedure that provides patients wrinkle-relief within 3-5 days and the results last for roughly 3-5 months. Botox is most effective in people between the ages of 30-50. Once applied, Botox decreases the movement of the muscles in the affected area, which consequently eliminates your facial wrinkles. The wrinkles of time stand no chance against the power of Botox! One Botox treatment can brighten your attitude and boost your self-confidence.

Juvéderm FAQs
Approved by the FDA in 2006, Juvéderm is relatively new to the facial rejuvenation industry. As with any new procedure, patients have many questions regarding the Juvéderm procedure. Please read the Juvéderm FAQs below to get a better understanding of the procedure.

What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm comes in gel form and once applied, relieves the appearance of wrinkles and folds in the face. The gel is made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance found naturally in the body. The purpose of HA is to act as a moisturizer and to fill the spaces between collagen and elastic fibers. As we begin to age, our bodies fail to produce the proper volume of HA resulting in facial wrinkles and folds.

Juvéderm is a biocompatible substance and comes from a non-animal origin. There is no need for a patient to undergo an allergy test before treatment, as allergic reactions to Juvéderm are extremely rare. Juvéderm is known to increase volume and smooth out facial wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth. It is most effective in adding fullness to thin lips and decreasing the severity of nasolabial folds.

Why is Juvéderm Better Than Other Facial Fillers?
While other fillers contain particles that can be seen with the naked eye, Juvéderm is completely transparent. Juvéderm has a much higher concentration of HA compared to other fillers making the gel much smoother. Juvéderm is less invasive than competing fillers and provides patients with instant improvement. Results vary but typically last up to six months.

How is Juvéderm Applied?
Juvéderm is injected into the skin with a miniscule needle. Before application, a dental block is performed to numb injection area. Juvéderm is an easy procedure meaning recovery time is minimal. You should be able to return to normal activities almost immediately.

How Long Does The Juvéderm Treatment Take?
Application time varies case-by-case but typically takes only 30 minutes.

What Areas Of My Body Can Be Treated With Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is most effective when used to smooth out wrinkles and folds are the mouth and nose. It is also an effective method to enhance lips and to redefine the face.

Are Juvéderm Injections Painful?
The majority of patients find Juvéderm injections to be virtually painless. Dr. Gilliam uses the most state-of-the-art equipment and the most advanced practices to ensure your utmost comfort. A dental block and/or local anesthetic may be utilized to minimize any pain.

Can Juvéderm Be Removed?
Juvéderm cannot be removed. However, it is not permanent and will disband over time.

How Quickly Will I Notice Results?
Juvéderm results are noticed immediately. Some patients experience minimal bruising with the injection. Thus, we advise patients to refrain from using any blood-thinning agents one week before they undergo the treatment. Slight swelling may occur around the area of injection and could last 2-3 days. In many cases, one side of the face may require more Juvéderm, which can result in lopsided swelling. This asymmetrical swelling has been known to alarm patients, but it is not a concern, as the face will return to normal.
